The Stone Roses - "Tell Me"
This is probably my favorite song The Stone Roses ever wrote and it appeared as a b-side to their FIRST single ever, titled “So Young” (the a-side ain’t bad either) if you can fucking believe that one! Brilliance at the gates! Holy fucking cow is right! You can also find it on "The Complete Stone Roses" CD (which is a collection of singles from the first album and before). “Tell Me,” sounds very little like either of their later full-length records; it’s very raw in a gothic punk sorta way. Very Joy Divisiony if you will. Plus it’s got that “fuck off if you don’t think I’m the greatest ever attitude”, that only Ian Brown could bring you and only Oasis could copy and make millions off of. I recommend buying their first and self titled record (“The Stone Roses”) as well as their second and very unpopular record “Second Coming” (if only for the first song “Breaking into Heaven” alone). I know this is a very unfavorable stance to take, but I really honestly think that “Second Coming” is almost as good as “The Stone Roses”, it’s just very different. I have yet to meet someone who agrees with me on that topic. When I interviewed Ian Brown a while ago he told me “On the first record John [Squire] was pretending to be Jimmy Page and on the second record John was pretending to be Jimi Hendrix. And John is real fucking shit at being Hendrix!” Anyhoo… I won’t even go there right now. In closing this band rips, this song makes me wanna flip off cops and if you don’t agree you’re a twit. I am the garage flower!

If the self-titled album hadn't come first, Second Coming would have been considered a classic. Fact.
Damn- I've at least gotta see Ian Brown live before I die...

Second Coming got slagged in unfair fashion...The first is a classic, but the grit, grime and groove of Second Coming is rope-a-fuckin-dope!
As sighted, Breaking Into Heaven is a scorcher. Driving South and Love Spreads smoke also...
The shit gets funky with Daybreak and Straight To The Man...Makes me recall salacious memories, trippin' ballz and gettin' freaked!
Good call on the shout out!

such a shame the stone roses took 5 years to make a 2nd album (that everyone seems to dislike... its good not first album good though) and broke up.
all these reunions of bands happening lately. maybe they'll take notice? maybe its better if they didn't. is it likely? well then again the la's are supposedly... hmm...

The La's fucking sucked. That "There She Goes" song was about smack though wasn't it? Fuck a Stone Roses reunion though. Have you heard the new Ian Brown or at least that track he made with one iof the unibrow teins from Oasis? Bomb. I'm sure if you brought it up to that dude he's say like "Blimey" and smash your domepiece in.

when i think to myself "ryan, what did manchester sound like in the late 1980's" this is kind of the sound that pops into my head. why? the production style (reverb drums and chorus guitar) as well as the "i don't give a fuck" attitude that is all very british. when i think of bands like this i think of the happy mondays.
