The Red Crayola - "Transparent Radiation"
The Red Crayola, who later changed their named to The Red Krayola to avoid a lawsuit with those people who make crayons, is Mayo Thompson. He's the only original member and he wrote all the songs to boot. From what I hear "they" are still a band and Mayo is a teacher somewhere here in LA (anyone know where or what he teaches?). "Transparent Radiation" appears in a very bizarre (and borderline annoying) arrangement on the first Red Krayola album "Parable of Arable Land", but this is a stripped down demo version that's 1,000 times better and actually the one that Spacemen 3 covered. The part where Mayo laughs on this song is the best! You can find this with four other Red Crayola demo songs on the label comp "Epitaph For A Legend" along side tracks from 13th Floor Elevators (which for once don't have that retarded jug instrument all their other songs have), Spades (Roky Erickson's other band) who do a version of "You're Gonna Miss Me" that's pretty out of tune, an interview with Roky Erickson (which makes little to no sense and makes it crystal clear why the dude spent time in an insane asylum), Inner Space (who butcher my favorite Led Zeppelin song "Communication Breakdown" in a beautifully punk way), and a bunch of other shit in the same vain that's worth checking out.

He teaches art at Pasadena's Art Center College of Design and I think CalArt. Colleges, Buddyhead tends to stay away from those things like they're the plague or jazz.

College is boot camp for a desk job.

Not going to college is boot camp for nerds to post MP3 blogs.

Any sort of institution like college can be stifling if that's what you make of it, but you can work inside of it, too. As I'm on the verge of graduation high school, my feelings on college are ambivalent, as the only thing I really enjoy is playing music and music degrees are worthless. Whatever, I'll throw on Harvest again.

After four years of college, it's nothing but prep.school for soul-sucking jobs in the future.

really, who gives a fuck if people go to college? its a choice just like anything else. like choosing to be a bum and ask people for cheap vodka and heroin money, or on the other hand, choosing to be a money hungry soul sucking wall street trader.

Nah, this shit is awesome. Parable Of Arable Land is fucking great. If you want some of their rare shit, shoot me an email and I'll get to ripping/posting that.

Man, I don't know how you pull that off...you get to live in L.A., which is expensive as balls, travel, with no 'desk job', and I don't know how you make money off this site. However you do it, congratulations! And dude, why be a dick to someone who gives you free shit to listen to and who's site you obviously love, since you're on it? I'll never understand certain people. Do you wanna piss them off so they start charging or shut it down? damn man.

The Sound.
Well after thinking about it, some of the tracks increase "in" sound volume and quality while others dont. Are u using vinyl?
You do sound though like two geeks talking about their record collection, but thur aint shit wrong wid that.
If anyones interested u can hear new Iccie Line stuff here.

the only good thing about college is you can tour 3 months out of the year. the rest of it is complete shit.

College is supposed to be such an enlightening experience, but let's be honest here; half the shit you learn in college you'll never use or apply to real life situations. And once you obtain a college degree you have to do a ton of brownnosing to get to a comfortable position in your career.
Posted by: Jason | Friday, May 06, 2005 at 09:20 AM
college is only good for blowjobs, meeting geeks with the same music interest, drugs, booze, blowjobs and coming to terms with more drugs.
Posted by: King Kerching | Friday, May 06, 2005 at 10:30 AM
king kerching got that right.

Yes do choose to be a "bum", or a traveling vagabond, to put it in nicer words. Everyone is going to die, so why waste the little time you have on Earth at college or a job. Money is not worth anything, status is meaningless...
