Neil Young - "After The Gold Rush"
Neil Young is one of my favorite song writers. Sure he sings kinda weird, but he can write some wicked killer songs. His record called "After The Goldrush" is probably my favorite of his and it's title track is one of my favorite songs. If you don't own any Neil, start with "After The Goldrush", "Zuma", "On The Beach" & "Harvest", and be very cautious of his 80's records unless you're really sure you wanna go there. Aaron's going there right now I think. Here's the studio version of "After The Gold Rush" and a live version off of the
album "Live Rust" of it as well. I can't help but laugh when Neil sings "there was a
band playing in my head and I felt like getting high" and the whole
crowd cheers. I love big cheesey rock shows! Too bad the good ones are very rare these days.

Neil Young is god!

My dear old mother once went to see Neil young in Glasgow sometime in the seventies. He was so stoned/drunk/smacked out his nut that he couldn't play and got bottled off the stage. He stumbled off laughing despite the very real risk of him getting a kicking. Sounds like a good night.

I second the notion that Neil Young is god!

Keep on rockin' in the free world man, hehe. D'oh.
Nah seriously though, do love a bit of Harvest. Anyone heard that live version of 'the needle and the damage done' where he completely breaks down and freaks out half way through?

ya either love him or hate him. i happen to love him (strictly platonic tho). I like his self titled album back in 1969. songs like "If I Could Have Her Tonight" and "I've Been Waiting For You" - good stuff indeed.

Yeah right, Neil Diamond is so much better... Eh? Eh?
Seriously though, Freedom is from the 80's and it ain't too bad.

Its all about his Weld live album from 1991 (when he toured with Sonic Youth). that shit rips like no other. Fuck'n Thurston following him around and shit, you know that fucker got in Neils head, telling him feedback was cool, and thank god for that.

Oh for fucks sake, i can't believe i never bought this album before...purchased it this past weekend and aside from all the obvious amazing songs, i was completely blown away by "Don't Let it Bring You Down", and "WYDYCRL" shit just punched me in the face with it's beauty. ok, back to work now.

Neil was making records of feedback long before Sonic Youth started up. Check out Reactor, the whole album is up there with that Primal Scream track "Accelerator," as far as noisiest songs go. And I mean "songs," not some guy throwing a mic in a blender and dumping water on efx pedals and shit.

This is my favorite Neil album too. A couple years back Thom Yorke from Radiohead played at Neil's Bridge School Benefit concert up here in the Bay Area. He was playing Pyramid Song and shit solo before that Amnesiac came out. Then he says "this is Neil's piano. It's calling to me..." And busts out the one Neil Young cover song you knew was gonna come out of him since it is full of spaceships, aliens, and getting high...After the Goldrush. It was fucking killer.
