The Replacements - "Let It Be"
Most bands couldn't pull off naming their record the exact same thing The Beatles named one of theirs without looking like a bunch of douchey hacks. Fact! But always remember: there's an exception to every rule kids. The exception in this case is The Replacements back in 1984. Think about it... Four guys from the same Midwestern town as Hüsker Dü (Minneapolis) just went ahead and named their record "Let It Be" and no one could fuck with em' because it was so god damn solid. Now that's punk. If you haven't gotten hooked on The Replacements yet, get ready cuz Paul Westerberg is one hell of a songwriter and this record is a motherfuckin' roller coaster. "Let It Be" has "country jammers", "heavy rockers" and even a few ballads. This album is so damn good I had trouble picking what songs I should post here for you to check out. I went with my gut as usual and settled on "I Will Dare" and "Unsatisfied". Although you gotta make sure to pay attention to "Favorite Thing" and "Androgynous" when you finally pick this baby up. The whole record just makes me wanna drink a whole lot of alcohol... but I think that was their intent.

Amazing record, amazing band, and still under-appreciated!

Killer Mats video
Saturday Night Live Performance where they were so drunk the cast didn't think they would be able to perform. They were banned from ever appearing again for saying fuck on air and trashing their hotel room http://homepage.mac.com/jdmajaris/QTmovies/iMovieTheater100.html
www.twintone.com has some really early video of the replacements in their video section

"Let it Be" is a fucking classic, in my all-time top ten, and that's where it will always remain. It might fall just short of a perfect record, but perfection's a bored anyway. As Travis says, it's hard to pinpoint hightlights, but I'd tend to go with his own picks: "Unsatisfied" and "I Will Dare," which opens the record. Right from the jangly opening, not to mention the killer bass line, I'm fucking hooked. Yet there's so much killer stuff, it feels like a crime not to mention the once-heard-never-forgotten chorus of "Favorite Thing," the non-gimmicky phone-company robot overlay on "Answering Machine," and the screamed, out-of-nowhere lyrics on the otherwise-instrumental "Seen Your Video." I hadn't played this record in a few months before seeing this post, but I'm playing now, and, just like always, it's fucking heaven.

It's about time you educated people with a couple of tracks from this perfect fucking Rock N' Roll record! Keep up the great work....

Replacements have heavy cred! Blonde Redhead blow stank asshole...I saw that shitstorm open up for Interpol...and homegirl fucking lipsynched like a gnarly Ashlee Simpson...the vocals were coming straight outta the speakers while that fugly troll held the mic at her side...wonder why that band is nothing than a minor listing on their label roster.

amazing, I justed listened to this today. one of the best bands EVER, they are the perfect litmus test. Anytime you think you found a great new band, listen to replacements and then put that record on.... does it kinda suck now? yeah, it usually does.

This has nothing to do with the Replacements, but....I remember seeing a link on here (maybe in the gossip) for a petition to get Dennis Wilon's "Pacific Ocean Blue" released on CD....here's one for Neil Young's "Time Fades Away" (one of his best), go sign it: http://thrasherswheat.org/tnfy/tfa-petition.php
