Jim Reid - "And Your Bird Can Sing"
This month's Mojo came with a cd that has various people doing Beatles covers of songs off of their "Revolver" album. The highlight of the free compilation for me is the Jim Reid (former singer of The Jesus & Mary Chain and currently Freeheat) version of "And Your Bird Can Sing". So far as a solo musician Jim has only released one song ("Song For A Secret") on a split 7 inch/cd with "Sister Vanilla" (which is his brother William Reid) and this cover, but it sounds pretty damn good. As far as I'm concerned these dudes need to quit wasting time and get the fuckin' JAMC back together. In the meantime, get ready for the JAMC reissues Rhino is putting out on July 11th, check out the "I Hate Rock N' Roll" video, and download some solo Jim from these two radio sessions that homeboy did.

Just out of curiosity, who else is on that Mojo CD?

Sister Vanilla is actually the brothers' younger sister Linda, not William's project.

Yesterday And Today
June 15, 1966 Capitol Records
By the time the Capitol Records released Yesterday And Today, the Beatles were in hot water in America. The record was released just after John's infamous interview in which he stated that the Beatles were "bigger than Jesus", which angered Americans and provoked many bans on their music and public incinerations of memorabilia. But Yesterday And Today would take public dispproval to a whole new level, as the original cover featured the band in butcher's smocks with baby doll parts and raw meat covering them. The record was pulled almost immediately - creating an instant collector's item - and in the confusion that followed, several replacement covers were issued. Songs on the album were taken from the 'leftovers' of the British release Rubber Soul as well as the single/B-side "Yesterday/Act Naturally" (released on the UK version of Help!), the single/B-side "We Can Work It Out/Day Tripper", and three songs which had not, at that point, been released in the UK: "I'm Only Sleeping", "Doctor Robert", and "And Your Bird Can Sing" (which all wound up on the UK version of Revolver).

I can't get that "Love on the Ground" song out of my head. That is some really catchy shit. Whats William up to these days? He seems to have dropped off the planet. I know theres no chance of a JAMC reunion but itd be cool if those guys could get together in the studio again and just bash out an e.p
