I don't know much about the Pink Fairies aside from that they were a weird band from the late sixties that not too many people liked and their drummer was from a rad band called The Pretty Things. To be honest I don't really care to know much about these guys, what I do know (and care) about is a little song they wrote called "Do It"! It's quite possibly one of best tunes ever penned by man. You can find this simple but killer jam on their album entitled "Never Never Land". For shits and giggles I also included a live version of The Rollins Band doing "Do It" (there's also a studio version too, but I do not have it). I'm by no means a fan of the buff fourth singer of Black Flag's post-flag work, but "Do It" is so good I think I'd be into anyone playing it. Does anyone reading this know of other bands that covered this song? Download the Pink Fairies two versions of "Do It" as well as the live steakhead version, burn a cd of them all and put it on
repeat at the next party you're at... shit is sure to get broken. Don't
talk about it... DO IT! It's rock n' roll... and the message is... DO IT!
(Download - "Do It" single edit)

The Pink Fairies stem from The Social Deviants, who combined an MC5 thing with a Zappa thing - but original and contiguous (they being Brits). Some of the main members are angelenos today - such as Mick Farren, sc-fi author, music critic, and all around journ for our local LA CityBeat. His blog, Doc 40 is a must read!

Great song, thank you for posting the original. Henry Rollins on the other hand is a jack ass. Has anyone noticed his voiceover work for Firestone Tires TV commercials? What a jerk.

I got to see the Fairies play a sold out club in the mid-seventies. They played the most brilliant cover of "Waiting For the Man" I ever heard, between 15 and 20 minutes of it. They also managed to squueze in their Anarchist anthem you have so thoughtfully posted.
Amongst the English teenage heavy metal hipsters I hung with only the Velvets were held in higher esteem than the Fairies. The boys were fucking authentic. Everybody should have all their music.

that was great. i like both versions, the pink fairies and rollins. i didnt know there were cool bands out there like the pink fairies. how ironic that rollins covered it as he is no pink fairy. haha. cut rollins some slack he is just trying to live like anyone else; he isnt out to hurt anyone, and he did the whole benefit for the west memphis 3, and his books are cool. by the way, is there any chance you could do an mp3 blog on the rollins cover of "earache my eye"? the song originally by cheech and chong? rollins version just smokes. i heard it once but cant afford this exclusive 7 inch, so help a brother out. im not undermining anyones authority.

Henry Rollins is a fairy if I ever saw one.
Solid track. I've never heard much from The Pink Fairies, so I might pick some up.

I did a google search and found out a band called "Death Of Samantha" covered it. But I can't seem to find an mp3 of the song.

J0hn, I found the same thing, only I got my grubby hands on an mp3 of it on Soulseek. I'm sending it you way.
I already sent it to Travis, but no word from him yet.

the fairies rocked, uncompromisingly so! a precurser to motorhead and in many ways a predictor of punk. a late-80's pre-grunge rock band from new york city called FREAKS covered 'do it' and released it on their debut 7'' in 1989. the band featured none other than former-blessed, pre-dgeneration/danzig bassist howie pyro. i'll rip it whenever i get off my lazy ass to learn how to 'do it'!

btw if you can find it: get the fairies 'kings of oblivion' cd. not only is city kids [later covered by motorhead] on it, so is the mega stomper, ''i wish i was a girl''.
