This is a site by music fans (and musicians) for music fans. We’ve got a serious itch for good music (as we’re sure you do as well if you’re reading this) and MEDICATION is the scratch (so to speak). Take your medicine kids. Swallow this. What you'll find below is a variety of music hand picked by us and our close friends just for you! Don't you feel special?!?! These songs are only posted for evaluation purposes, so please don’t trip out. We here at “The Head” really love and support well-made music, and make every effort to support the artists we dig on by purchasing their work (we only post shit that we own). The purpose of this site is to simply share good music with others who will also hopefully continue to support these artists. It’s a win-win situation, got it champ? We encourage everyone to purchase music, concert tickets and $47 dollar tour shirts in XXL from the artists you feel merit your dollar bills (if you are gonna listen to something again and again... why not?). We also encourage everyone to never have kids, do drugs & worship Satan though. In other words, if you happen to be one of the fancy-pants that own the copyright to one of these songs and would like a song removed for our site, please don’t sue us. Please just let us know by emailing us at [email protected]. We’re not here too harsh anyone’s mellow. If you are a band, label or distributor and think we'd be interested in your music, please feel free to send us a cd to Buddyhead PO BOX 1268 HOLLYWOOD, CA 90078. Feel free to chew on our nuts too biiiiiiotch!
Githead is Collin Newman's side project. You remember Collin from a small band called Wire, right? I fuckin' hope you do. Speaking of Wire, they've got a new "Read & Burn 3" EP coming out reeeeeaaaaal soon that I'm super stoked to hear. The first two "Read & Burn" EPs and the "Send" record they put out SLAYED! Prolly my favorite Wire records to date actually. Anyways, back to Githead. It's a bit different from Wire, it's a bit more "groove based" and has a little funk in it. Sorry that description stunk worse than the shit I took this morning... But, trust me... it's good. I wasn't into the first EP they put out but this full length is pretty killer. You can buy all things Wire & Githead (among other cool things) @ http://pinkflag.com/. The message is DO IT!
P.s. The new Buddyhead site will be back up this weekend... hopefully. We had to fix a couple things so we pulled it down until it's TITS again. Stop emailing me and asking where it went cuz reading your boring bullshit is cutting into my drinking. WOO! YEAH! Oh, and if you're in LA this weekend I'm DJing The Polyphonic Spree show @ the Henry Fonda tonight, IAMX @ The El Rey tomorrow & The Shout Out Louds @ The Fonda on Monday (fuck you, I know that's not the weekend anymore). Kisses.
I'm way into this whole "bands giving away their music for free" thing. Today you can add The Verve to that list because they released a new jam via the NME.com titled "The Thaw Sessions", which is prolly a reference to 'Deep Freeze' (that was a bonus track on their last album 'Urban Hymns'). It's a little over 14 minutes long, which is why I called it a "jam", and sounds more like the first two records than it does their last one.... which is fuckin' the right direction for these blokes if you ask me. Can't wait to hear more. Get into it! The word on the street is we'll see these dudes live at Coachella in 2008. Now if they could only lock down Oasis for that gig as well...
I just got an email from The Cassettes where they explained that they'd just finished an animated music video for their song "Rogue Gnome" from their critically acclaimed album 'Neath The Pale Moon! Shit yeah! First, if you haven't checked out their album, I highly recommend you do so now by clicking HERE. Secondly, check out this video... it looks great! Someone give these dudes a show on Adult Swim (actually I dunno what I'm talking about, I've never seen Adult Swim). The "Rogue Gnome" video was brought to life by Stephen Guidry and illustrated by Shelby Cinca (both of those dudes are in The Cassettes). The video follows the gnomes travels throughout various cosmic lands... Might wanna hit the sticky icky for this one kids. And when I say kids I mean 14 and below.
This U2 bootleg has not left my stereo for the past few weeks. And that's because theis thing fuckin' slays! It's from the Zoo TV tour (I think) but 90% of the songs they play are from their "Achtung Baby" record (which just so happens to be my favorite U2 record cuz it's the darkest and the most fucked up). I don't know much about this bootleg, but I'm gonna guess the band made it cuz of the interludes and interviews included with it. Anyone know the skinny on this bad boy? Download a few songs or the whole thing as a zip file... It's all about choices dude. Have it your way, like Burger King.
This came out back in May of 1998 and features "Birthday" off the "Munki" record as well as the b-side "Hide Myself" which is only on this slab of vinyl. It'll prolly be on the 4xCD boxset these grumpy old men are putting out in February next year on Rhino called "The Power Of Negative Thinking: B-Sides and Rarities". Can't wait for that little fucker. JAMC are playing the Wiltern on October 23rd with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, should be killer. You can buy tickets HERE.
The newest UNKLE record, "War Stories", fuckin' rules. If you haven't bought it yet, do so now. And if you haven't seen em live yet, make sure you do when they cruise through your area. I was lucky enough to get to see them three times this summer in Europe (some photos here) and I'm going to get to see them twice more when they play the Echoplex in LA (26 Oct) and Vegoose in Vegas (28 Oct). Super fan I guess. Either way, I can't fuckin' wait. Check the new video for "Hold My Hand" which is one of my favorite songs (the other one being "Morning Rage" which I posted last week) and the video for their first single "Burn My Shadow".Fuck yeah man.
A Place to Bury Strangers are the self proclaimed "Loudest band in New York". For the record, I'm backing any band that wants to be the loudest band anywhere. Being loud is cool. I kept reading that these dudes sounded like The Jesus and Mary Chain so I finally got around to listening to them. And well, they kinda sound like that... Maybe they'd sound more like the JAMC if they didn't write such catchy songs. APTBS have quite aways to go in the songwriting department, they pass in the feedback and cool sounds department though. Either way this record is pretty good, better than most new things I've heard lately... even if their band name sounds like something I read in Alternative Press.

This should be called "The Soulsavers with Mark Lanegan", because the Soulsavers were already a group before this record. Aside from the lack of his name in the title, Mark kicks ass on this record. You'll find his voice on most of the songs that make up "It's Not How Far You Fall, It's The Way You Land", which is one of the best records I've heard that's come out this year. The past few weeks, it has been my "Sunday Morning" record. Plus, their Stone's cover ("No Expectations") fuckin' kills! Hit their website for upcoming tour dates, news and anything else you could possibly want. http://www.thesoulsavers.com/
Graveyard reminds me of Soundgarden, Black Sabbath & and dudes with long hair who always wear jean jackets. You might wanna get into the Angry Jesus style. Check out their song "Thin Line" from their record that's coming out Febuary 8th on Tee Pee Records and then hit their myspace page for more songs @ http://www.myspace.com/graveyardsongs.
