If you haven’t seen this band live, you’re missing out on one of the best live shows around today. Hopefully this doesn't come off as bragging... I feel extremely lucky to have spent two and a half weeks on tour with “The Scream” witnessing this “rock n’ roll-rave”, party their way across the United Kingdom last year in honor of their “Dirty Hits” album (which is a greatest hits of sorts). Considering the legendary rock alumni on the tour (Mani from The Stone Roses on bass, Kevin Shields from My Bloody Valentine on guitar, Bobby Gillespie who played drums on The Jesus And Mary Chain’s “Psychocandy” on the mic, and the rest of Primal Scream), the over abundance of free flowing class A drugs we all used to destroy and open our minds with, not to mention all the weed and alcohol put in front of us, their blinding techno light show (that’ll either make you wanna dance or have a seizure), hearing these songs every night and the excitement one gets from being around all the previously stated… I think it’s safe to say I was never the same after that little vacation. This Primal Scream Live In Japan cd is one of the souvenirs I brought home with me and it’s the closest thing I’ve found to recreating that tour (and you won't even get brain damage from it). This baby only came out in Japan (so it’s gonna carry a high price tag around $25) and was mixed by Kevin Shields so you know it sounds siiiick. They play a pretty good cross section of tracks selected from their numerous full lengths and even tackle the Johnny Thunders song “Born To Lose”. Here’s three of my favorite songs from it. This version of “Shoot Speed/Kill Light” is different than the live version you can find on “Buddyhead Presents: Gimme Skelter”. So check that out too if you're digging on these.

Is this that band with the rebel flag on one of their album covers? Fuck that.

This web blog gets better everytime Keller rips a track from his library.
I also too am fortunate to have seen PRML SCRM live, during the 3 best albums, Vanishing Point, Exterminator and Evil Heat. Fucking hell those titles all together are like the names of 70s psychadelic slasher road movies.

Check out the book "the myths and misbehavior of Primal Scream" by Kris Needs to learn more about one of the greatest bands to ever grace the planet. For some reason their records don't sell at all in America so they'll probably never tour here again. Also check out Two Lone Swordsmen, it's a band featuring Andy Weatherall who programs a lot of the Scream's electronic sounds

This record sounds great! I still like the version on Gimme Skelter better but this version of SHOOT SPEED is good too... prolly one of the best songs ever.

Ugh, I really was disappointed when I finally heard this band. This sounds like the shit those granola kids in my high school would listen to. Next please...
Posted by: Johnson | Monday, May 09, 2005 at 04:00 PM
huh? granola? Accelerator sounds like a techno stooges to me.. it's dirty and hard... are we talking about the same band?
Posted by: Andy The Panda | Monday, May 09, 2005 at 05:12 PM
hey travis, you sent me this record over AIM like a year ago in exchange for a live spacemen 3 recording. man i've been listening to this ever since. autobahn66 and shoot speed/kill light are my personal faves off this one. what was kevin shields' role with this? did he mix it or play on it or what? killer record man.
ps-you should post some stuff off of suede's first album. people need to be hipped to them.

Yeah they played Come Together.. but it's not on this cd... I think that's what you were asking...
What are granola kids?
And Kevin Shields played guitar on it.. (i.e. made noises) and mixed it.

Primal Scream have been ruined for me by the amount of times i heard that song about getting your rocks off when i was a small child and hearing middle aged neighbour women singing along to it on the radio, I'm sure they're good but that just ruined it for me even though the band is full of bona fide legends. My respect for Mani is particularly high after him coming up and talking to one of my friends at a club one night so high that he thought he'd came their that night with my friend and was asking if they were going to a party afterwards even though my friend had never met him before or even talked to him earlier on that night.

I'm not supporting a group with a fuckin' rebel flag on their album cover. Isn't anyone else with me dammit? What's wrong with you fuckers?
Posted by: Ryan | Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at 12:11 AM
uhhh... well then don't support em man... big loss. maybe start with not posting on this primal scream post smart guy.

quite funny, boys. Now you're onto Class-A drugs, and all rock'n roll; it wasn't like that when you came across town, lil' kids.... Thanks for the laughter, but please, go any further from beginners level.

Confused by the granola reference, but waving at the 'get your rocks off' nod...fuckin' Virgin radio. This, however, blows it outta the water. Shields is the guv'nor.

Who the fuck is king ink?
Hipped onto suede? Please ignore Travis.
Also i think the Rebel flag is hinting towards the albums title "Give out but never give" an almost rebe title. Nuffink to do with whatever u Americans got up to back in the day.

ignore the missing bits... just fin work.
Posted by: king kerching | Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at 08:56 AM
Seriously, what the fuck is a granola kid?
Posted by: Jason | Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at 10:49 AM
"Seriously, what the fuck is a granola kid". For all of you who ask this, it is quite obvious, it means hippie. How hard was that?. Fucking christ o' mighty
Posted by: jesusbar | Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at 11:53 AM
my favorite primal scream song is "KILL ALL HIPPIES"

I have a rad shirt with that emblazoned on the back. By the way, the stooges' junior kimbrough covers are pretty awesome. It's refreshing after the shitstorm of skull ring.
Another aside, my ex-girlfriend's dad really liked skull ring, and he was down with the stooges back before it was iggy and.... Maybe you have to be as old and out of touch as iggy is to like that shit. I heard he likes slipknot. I hate reading stuff like that.

REBEL FLAG! who cares! they used it as americana symbolism.. it was rather pastiche too since it was a neon light rebel flag. It's just an extension of their Rolling Stones obsession on that album which in turn is Rolling Stones obsessing with the American south in their years. Not that big of a deal.. if it's glorifying the confederacy that's one thing, but nothing else in the art says that. So I don't think you need to get your knickers all riled up over that album cover.
