I woke up this morning to find this brand new Tv On The Radio song in my email inbox, so I figured I'd better share it with all of you. They wrote it for those affected by Hurricane Katrina and it's free for you to enjoy. Please pass it around.
(Download - "Dry Drunk Emperor")
A Gift To You From TV On The Radio
"we ( tvotr ) were back in the studio thinking and feeling again and made this song for all our everybody... in the absence of a true leader we must not forget that we are still together.... hearts are sick ... minds must change ... it is our hope that this song inspires, comforts, fosters courage, and reminds us... this darkness cannot last if we work together. let us help each other... heal each other.... look after one another ... the human heart is our new capitol.... this song is for you.... us..... we.... them... it is free. pass it on."
baby boy
dieing under hot desert sun,
watch your colours run.
did you believe the lie they told you,
that christ would lead the way
and in a matter of days
hand us victory?
did you buy the bull they sold you,
that the bullets and the bombs
and all the strong arms
would bring home security?
all eyes upon
dry drunk emperor
gold cross cross jock skull and bones
mocking smile,
he's been
standing naked for a while!
get him gone, get him gone, get him gone!!
and bring all the thieves to trial.
end their promise
end their dream
watch it turn to steam
rising to the nose of some cross legged god
gog of magog
end times sort of thing.
oh unmentionable disgrace
shield the childrens faces
as all the monied apes
display unimaginably poor taste
in a scramble for mastery.
atta' boy get em with your gun
till mr. mega ton
tells us when we've won
or
what we're gonna leave undone.
all eyes upon
dry drunk emperor
gold cross jock skull and bones
mocking smile,
he's been
naked for a while.
get him gone, get him gone, get him gone!!!
and bring all his thieves to trial.
what if all the fathers and the sons
went marching with their guns
drawn on washington.
that would seal the deal,
show if it was real,
this supposed freedom.
what if all the bleeding hearts
took it on themselves
to make a brand new start.
organs pumpin on their sleeves,
paint murals on the white house
feed the leaders L.S.D
grab your fife and drum,
grab yor gold baton
and let's meet on the lawn,
shut down this hypocrisy.
hehe nice lyrics

I saw Kyp Malone do some random solo show where I live and he sang about cocksuckers and pimps and bears. That pretty much summarizes why this band is amazing. Thanks for sharing this.

They are really clever. I like smart lyrics. I hope they become famous because they are so good. I bet they are all bottoms.

i just got an e-mail from an ex making fun of me cause i wear "high water" jeans, never shave, and live with my parents. it almost upset me. yeah, i figured there would be more songs like this after the hurricane and war and stuff.

"another liberal band. boring" ....."slayer and nazism". This site's readers never fail to entertain.
The thing is: fuckdom beyond belief in Usa's politics. God lyrics, good warm attitude in the song. But i don't really like their music.
Hey, we want more Dave Clifford posts!

What's with all the praise of Modest Mouse? They're completely mediocre at best. Like Albini said of the pixies, they're boring college rock.
Posted by: Michael | Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at 12:58 PM
Eh. I'll always love the first few Pixies albums. Modest Mouse does pretty much blow though.
Posted by: Andrew | Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at 10:39 PM
I actually meant to clarify: Pixies = good
Modest Mouse = boring college-rock with annoying vocals.
