I don't know much about this dude aside from that he sounds a lot like a cross between Marc Bolan and David Bowie, he recorded this record over a two year period at Jay Bennett's (Wilco) Clubhouse and he writes pretty good songs. I'm not even a big fan of Bowie (I like it when he covered The Velvet Underground), but I'll pretend I am if it means I'm going to get laid because of it. I haven't tested my theory out yet but I'd be willing to lay down whatever money I do have on that chicks will dig this David Vandervelde record if you put it on when you're trying to get down. Lemme know if it works kids. Anyone seen this cat live?
Jacket Video
He's alright...
I have to listen more of his stuff or maybe it has to grow on me.
Its ok though.

He's playing Lollapalooza in a couple days - I will check him out for sure.

He (and his band) are excellent live. For proof, check out the live set he did for WOXY.com: http://woxy.lala.com/music/loungeacts/index.php?id=161

i did see him play a solo electric set a few weeks ago, and for playing with no backing band (who instead opted to attend a nearby strip joint), he rocked shit.

It's pretty good stuff. I remember reading about this on a Wilco messageboard because I love Jay Bennett's work and he's a damn good producer. Travis do you dig Wilco?

Something quirky about this guy....but he's no Casanova....
Wilco seems mellow + you can hear their whole latest 'Sky Blue Sky' on their site :)

I think I've seen that video before. Pretty good but no David Bowie.

music videos suck.
dudes okay. wouldn't compare him to bowie or bolan, just has that kind of marc bolan voice where it's like he's trying to sound like a girl or something.
new unkle cd is good. if you're on the duke spirit mailing list you can try to win a copy, but you probably get it for free anyway.

I saw him open for Spoon here in Boston a few months back. He was good, but definitely didn't blow me away. Solid 70's influenced rock though , think Crazy Horse, Zep, The Who, Blue Cheer. The drummer was pretty bad-ass in that Keith Moon/Mitch Mitchell kind of way.

So I saw him at Lolla - he was excellent. His set was too short. Here is a crappy vid I took of Nothin' No:

Caught him twice this past weekend in Chicago. Once at Lolla, and an excellent set at Schuba's on Saturday night. His other guitarist needs to quit while he is behind though. His dork moves and facial expressions on stage were embarrassing and ruining a great time for everyone. Speaking of Lolla ...think the boys in Pearl Jam are reading buddyhead?? From what I saw, Matt Cameron wasn't sporting the gloves and Mike McReady didn't actually look like a lesbian swim coach. Still doing the behind the head solos though. Baby steps....

good song. he sounds like Brett from Suede... I liked Suede. Probably what happens when you are really into Marc Bolan + Bowie. Neato burrito. Travis is a scoob.

He does a cover of "Cock Sucker Blues" that might be better than the stones version. It was a limited download at the Daytrotter site. Good Stuff.

I saw him twice at sxsw and and I thought he rocked. The real deal. Yes, a very good songwriter and he's got the charm. Bought the over-produced record, which does not do him justice. When I returned to Toronto the kids at the photo studio asked me if I'd seen Kirstin Dunst at sxsw with whatever idiot Brit rocker she's dating. My response: "if she was REALLY cool she'd be dating David Vandervelde". Will post my sxsw vids when I have a chance.
