If you haven’t seen this band live, you’re missing out on one of the best live shows around today. Hopefully this doesn't come off as bragging... I feel extremely lucky to have spent two and a half weeks on tour with “The Scream” witnessing this “rock n’ roll-rave”, party their way across the United Kingdom last year in honor of their “Dirty Hits” album (which is a greatest hits of sorts). Considering the legendary rock alumni on the tour (Mani from The Stone Roses on bass, Kevin Shields from My Bloody Valentine on guitar, Bobby Gillespie who played drums on The Jesus And Mary Chain’s “Psychocandy” on the mic, and the rest of Primal Scream), the over abundance of free flowing class A drugs we all used to destroy and open our minds with, not to mention all the weed and alcohol put in front of us, their blinding techno light show (that’ll either make you wanna dance or have a seizure), hearing these songs every night and the excitement one gets from being around all the previously stated… I think it’s safe to say I was never the same after that little vacation. This Primal Scream Live In Japan cd is one of the souvenirs I brought home with me and it’s the closest thing I’ve found to recreating that tour (and you won't even get brain damage from it). This baby only came out in Japan (so it’s gonna carry a high price tag around $25) and was mixed by Kevin Shields so you know it sounds siiiick. They play a pretty good cross section of tracks selected from their numerous full lengths and even tackle the Johnny Thunders song “Born To Lose”. Here’s three of my favorite songs from it. This version of “Shoot Speed/Kill Light” is different than the live version you can find on “Buddyhead Presents: Gimme Skelter”. So check that out too if you're digging on these.
